Many studies have shown that people that have eaten a Mediterranean diet their entire life have a lower risk for stroke and heart disease and also have a lower incidence of obesity. It is very easy for most to switch to the Mediterranean diet because for most Americans the food is tasteful and attractive.

What is the Mediterranean diet? The Mediterranean diet is the staple foods most associated with the people of Greece and the surrounding area. These foods include olives, olive oil, light meats, fish, fruits such as dates and vegetables. Add in a glass or two of wine during dinner and you can see why this diet is extremely attractive.

A major plus to this diet is the use of monosaturated oils such as olive oil. Many people in America use polysaturated oils and margarines which can have


the affect of raising your cholesterol level. Monosaturated oils like Olive oil actually raise only the good cholesterol. Good cholesterol has been shown to lower heart disease. A glass or two of wine has also been show to lower the risk of heart disease. Wine also includes antioxidants which can rejuvenate the body. Fish has been also been shown to be great for the body with healthy antioxidants such as Omega 3.
